When I picked up The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, I started off with no expectations. This is after knowing that half of the world is recommending it. Half of the world also recommended The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind and I regretted considering their recommendation. However, this refreshing piece of truth that famous blogger, ‘Mark Manson’ has put together has surpassed any other self-help book I’ve ever read. It’s the most, truthful, brutally honest shit you’ll read today. And I mean shit like the feeling you get after the best poop ever: relief, satisfaction, and wholeness.
Mark takes some simple life lessons and gives you the truth with so many examples that it is difficult to not be able to relate. From dealing with failures to measuring happiness, from comparing yourself to others to meeting your own life goals, from dealing with death to forgiving yourself. There’s not a part of me left unsettled after reading this. I may actually read it again to let all of it sink in deeper and trust me when I say I don’t read books more than once.
This book isn’t preachy, it isn’t pushy and it won’t even give you any answers. At the most, it will help you look for the answers yourself and if you’re honest, you’ll find them. It won’t give you a way out of depression or sadness. But it will make it clearer to you how you got there and you’ll figure out how to help yourself. It won’t tell you to think positive and it won’t tell you to achieve your dreams. It’s everything you need to hear about these topics. This is not a self-help book. It’s a Bible for the everyday millennial, dealing with every day new age problems.
If you haven’t checked out Mark Manson’s blog yet, now’s a good time to have a look!
